Woodlands Historic Park to Gellibrand Hill 2021
10 July, 2021 @ 8:00 am - 5:00 pm

We met for a picnic lunch at the Somerton Road Picnic Area. The walk commenced from Weeroona Indigenous Cemetery, from where we headed east along the northern boundary of the Back Paddock, then up Gellibrand Hill with its rocky outcrops of Bulla Granodiorite. From the summit we had a spectacular 360-degree views, including the city skyline, the Great Dividing Range, the Bay and Melbourne Airport.
All walkers headed back down the hill. Short walkers then retraced their steps to the carpark and long walkers entered the Back Paddock, fenced to manage restoration of the vegetation and wildlife, including the endangered Eastern Barred Bandicoot. After visiting the bluestone ruins of the 1870s Cumberland homestead we headed for the Greenvale Creek, passing through some large River Red Gums to return to our cars.
